On August 15, India will mark its 79th Independence Day, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi set to raise the national flag at the historic Red Fort in New Delhi. This year’s theme, 'Naya Bharat', emphasizes the government's ambitious vision for a developed India by 2047.
Upon his arrival, the Prime Minister will be welcomed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth, and Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, who will introduce Lieutenant General Bhavnish Kumar, the General Officer Commanding of the Delhi area.
This year's celebrations will also honor the achievements of Operation Sindoor. The Gyanpath area will feature the operation's logo along with floral decorations. Flying Officer Rashika Sharma will assist in hoisting the flag, followed by a shower of flower petals from two Mi-17 helicopters of the Indian Air Force, one carrying the national flag and the other the 'Operation Sindoor' flag.
Wing Commander Vinay Poonia and Wing Commander Aditya Jaiswal will pilot the helicopters. After the flag hoisting, the Prime Minister will deliver his address to the nation. Following this, NCC cadets and 'My Bharat' volunteers will perform the National Anthem, with 2,500 cadets from the Army, Navy, and Air Force forming the 'Naya Bharat' logo on Gyanpath.
This year, around 5,000 distinguished guests from various sectors will attend the celebrations at the Red Fort, including members of the Indian contingent for the Special Olympics 2025, international sports event winners, Gold Medalists from the Khelo India Para Games, and exemplary farmers supported by the National Beekeeping and Honey Mission.
Invitations have also been extended to outstanding farmers, Sarpanches from Open Defecation Free Plus villages, young authors under the PM YUVA scheme, and various other achievers across multiple initiatives aimed at community development.
To foster a sense of patriotism and commemorate Operation Sindoor, band performances will take place nationwide for the first time on the evening of Independence Day. Bands from the Army, Navy, Air Force, and other security forces will perform at over 140 key locations across the country.
Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7 as a strategic military response to the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which resulted in 26 fatalities. The Indian Armed Forces targeted terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, leading to the elimination of over 100 terrorists. The government also dispatched multi-party delegations globally to communicate India's stance against cross-border terrorism. The Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan, initiated by PM Modi, has successfully instilled a spirit of nationalism among citizens.
On August 11, the Ministry of Culture announced the fourth edition of the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, part of 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav', encouraging citizens to bring the Indian National Flag into their homes. Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, stated that over 500,000 youths have registered as volunteers to promote this initiative.
The Ministry of Culture is collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure widespread participation in the campaign. Citizens are encouraged to display the Tiranga at their homes and share their celebrations on social media using the hashtag #HarGharTiranga.
The Har Ghar Tiranga 2025 campaign builds on the success of previous years, offering new opportunities for citizens to connect with the national flag in meaningful ways. The celebrations will culminate on August 15, 2025, with a collective display of the Tiranga across homes and public spaces, symbolizing national pride and unity.
